What does Line Of Sight mean
?
Line of
Sight (LOS) is often quoted in meters or kilometers and gives an
indication of the distance a transmitter (Tx) is able to communicate
with a receiver (Rx) in the absence of any obstruction between them.
At frequencies used by AQUAMETA and Rain Alert (434Mhz) obstruction
between the Tx and the Rx will degrade performance. LOS does
not mean that there must be no obstruction between the Tx and Rx, it
just means that the further the Tx and Rx are apart the less
obstruction should be in the way. The closer the Tx and Rx are, the
less effect obstructions like concrete walls and trees will have on
the ability for the Tx and Rx to communicate. On the AQUAMETA a test
switch is provided that emits a test signal every 2 seconds so that
the ability of the Tx and Rx to communicated can easily be
established at time of installation. |

Will I receive water level data from another AQUAMETA or Rain Alert
system in the area ?
No. Each pair (transmitter and receiver) is matched at time of
installation and will only communicate with each other. This means
that multiple AQUAMETA or Rain Alert systems can be used in the same
location. |

What is a
differential pressure sensor ?
A differential
pressure sensor measures the difference between two pressures.
AQUAMETA uses a differential pressure sensor to measure the
difference in pressure outside the water tank and the pressure
inside the bottom of the tank. The more water in the tank, the
greater the difference in pressure. This difference in pressure can
be used to accurately calculate the depth of water in the tank.
AQUAMETA uses a vented type of differential pressure sensor. One end
of the sensor (via the cable) is vented to the local atmospheric
pressure (air outside). This means that any change in the barometric
pressure will not have an effect on the accuracy of the reading.
Barometric pressure is affected by changing weather patterns that
move over the local area. In non vented pressure sensors, changes in
barometric pressures could see an error of up to 4 feet of water
being introduced !

Installing and verifying the
operation of wireless water tank level systems
This is an issue of
concern to people or companies that install these type of systems as
a business. The total time to complete the installation of this type
of system, consists of the time to install and to verify that
the transmitter and the receiver are communicating. This is where
the rate at which the display unit (receiver) is updated comes into
play. If the display is only updated once every hour, you will
have to wait an hour to verify that the system is working. If it is
not working and you need to reposition the display or transmitter,
it then takes another hour to verify. If this is an issue,
then consider a system that updates the display more often or a system that has a dedicated test function to test
communications. |

What is LCD ?
Liquid Crystal Display. This
type of display is commonly used on items such as clocks and
watches. The display does not emit any light. |

Light Emitting Diode. Commonly used in
displays where there is a requirement to be able to read the display
from a distance or in low light condition. Often used in alarm
clocks. |
